Some people are freaking out over a text book's handling of Islam in my home town.

I decided to go to the school board hearing with some friends and we listened to a lot of people from both sides of the argument. When we were walking in to the assembly room a group of Muslims came in at the same time and some old man said “It’s always nice to see Hezbollah at the school board meeting.” One woman yelled at the school board to make teachers come into work on their days off and “USE THE SCISSORS” to cut out the offending material. What really stuck with me though was the more positive aspects of the afternoon. A female preacher or something, I forget exactly what she said, said she supported the text as it was and that it was everybody’s responsibility to build a positive accepting community. I would go into greater detail, but I doubt anyone cares. I guess the positive aspects showed me that sometimes faith can be a beautiful thing.
